I don’t have to announce it for people to figure out that contrary to our intention, updates have been minimal to none since relaunch. We will be catching up but truthfully, it will remain slow for the next 3 to 6 months while we play catch up in our personal and professional lives as well. The site will continue to review movies, books, photography and art related items and many more but randomly for awhile so we can catch up with the piles of books, movies, gadgets and random items in the office.

Thanks to everyone for their patience.

Wow!

I’m not going to bore our readers with the hell I have just been through and why it delayed updates for 3 weeks but needless to say, I am hoping 2007 brings us better luck than this past year has!

We are truly working on getting things back up and running in the next week and will resume better than ever, (updating as often as we can!)

Happy Holidays! – Hope yours worked out better than ours!

As we continue to make changes and improvements we have found it very difficult to concentrate due to our excitement regarding Gears of War for the Xbox 360.

Gears of War arrives this week as many gamers already know so I am racing against its release to post a bunch of new reviews

November 2nd 2006

- A Special Commentary -

MI3 – A Review & Special Commentary on the Career of Tom Cruise – or why it is OK to love Tom Cruise again!

Today we’ll be posting the November Photographer & Artist of the month and posting some new reviews! We will also be writing a special comment on Mission Impossible 3 and the career of Tom Cruise.

Also, a look at F.E.A.R. for the Xbox 360 and a look back at the first year of the Xbox 360 and whether it lived up to the hype!

It must be the holiday season because the beautiful coffee table books just keep on coming.

While 30 something year old guys dream of getting the new Playstation 3 or Nintendo system, some of you will have your prayers answered with the beautiful re-issue of photographer Sam Haskins` wonderful book, Cowboy Kate!

Here is our review!

Also, we have been sneaking reviews up without telling you for movies and other things because we have a lot of catching up to do but should have a lot of reviews up in the coming weeks.

Our The Departed review will be up very soon and let’s just say, yeah, we loved it!

Ok, more soon!

Folks, read our review for the incredible new book, Life – A Journey Through Time from Frans Lanting and Taschen Books and then run and buy it!

Life - A Journey Through Time

It is a breathtaking and spellbinding celebration of nature and this world we inhabit!

Ok, I’m back! We’ve got some catching up to do but I am working on some reviews and features you guys are going to love.

There is a lot of great stuff coming out this Fall, Gears of War and F.E.A.R for the Xbox 360 (Yeah if you’ve sniped PinkFurryBunny in Halo 2, you’ve killed me) and I guess Playstation has a new system coming out that no one will actually be able to find, (let alone afford).

While the studios fight over Blu-Ray and HD-DVD formats, we’ll be quite content with all of the fantastic movies and tv shows on DVD coming out, as well as a handful of promising movies in the theaters.

We will be reviewing a ton of coffee table and photography related books and generally sharing with you our insight into our ventures into full time photography.

Not to get off focus either, but we have become hiking and nature enthusiasts (I saw my first mountain lion a few weeks ago) so we might be reviewing some of that stuff and also linking to some conservation sites considering how the human race is using up more of the planet than we can afford to.

Also, if you have sent us stuff to review and you’re wondering where the hell the reviews are, stay tuned over the next couple of days and you’ll find them popping out like Smurfs on a Saturday morning!

What I did on my summer vacation!

So, I took an unplanned vacation with my wife but was still working on stuff. I am doing a lot of rebuilding of the site from the inside out (a lot of catch up work) and should begin posting regular reviews next week as we have been writing up a storm.

Next week we’ll have a review of the new but old photo book Cowboy Kate by the legendary Sam Haskins and we’ll have a bunch of new books and movie reviews.

October 16, 2006

In case you hadn’t already figured it out (even though I neglected to mention it) I am on vacation until Thursday! Massive updates on the way!

If you want to know what I’ve been up to, go to my Flickr page!

October 10th 2006

We rarely post overtly negative reviews here but we rarely see a travesty as pathetic as X-Men 3 so that review is on its way. We’re on a little vacation, which really amounts to us catching up with a hundred movies we have been meaning to see. Reviews and posts will be trickling to you later in the week.

October 7th 2006

If you missed the 3rd season premiere of Battlestar Gallactica last night I am truly sorry. It was amazing! The Notorious Betty Page review will be posted soon along with along with many more great movies that we are filling up on right now! Stay tuned!

October 5th 2006

No update yesterday! A photo shoot and doctor’s visit kept me away!

Look for reviews of the Notorious Betty Page, Stay Alive and The Departed sometime this weekend.

More adult reviews coming.

Also, if you haven’t been watching Project Runway, why not? My wife got me hooked (not that my arm had to be twisted because I have a passing interest in fashion), and the show turned out to be my favorite reality show! I really have to be interested in the people in order to watch reality tv and these people are fascinating and the chemistry and intrigue is better than scripted television (Lost, The Office and Battlestar Gallactica excluded.) Also, the Project Runway designers actually have talent! Great show!

I have also watched some of America’s Next Top Model but only for the fashion photography. They really need a reality show focused on fashion photography!

Links to the reviews coming later today!

If you have noticed a lack of great psychological suspense thrillers in the theaters lately and desperately need some nightmarish mind-benders, you are in luck.

Today we will be posting reviews for 3 similarly toned films from different countries that are distinctly different but share an appreciation for great mystery wrapped in an esoteric puzzle.

From Korea…

a1

Spider Forest

From France…

Who Killed Bambi?

And the wonderful Dutch, Japanese, English language hybrid…

Wow! We finally saw Thank You For Smoking this weekend and almost wish we had seen it in the theaters! Great, great movie! Aaron Eckhart is incredible and the rest of the supporting cast unsurprisingly helps make this one of the most satisfying and complete cinematic experiences we have seen in some time. This was the first really smart movie we have seen this year.

We spent the weekend uploading more reviews (for films like Betty Blue, the Bermuda Depths and others,) and will be catching up all week until we are where we need to be.

We’ll update every day before noon pacific time and list the new reviews and special columns and direct you to them. Also check out our photographer of the month and artist of the month features.

Hope you like the new site.

October 1st 2006

Welcome to the new Mondopopsickle.com! Our purpose is to inform, entertain and educate!

While we have changed the format and the look of Mondopopsickle.com many times before in its three-year run we haven’t properly improved the site.

Many of our readers have pointed out what they wanted to change and we listened to some of those suggestions and mixed them with what we had planned for the site.

We wanted to get back to our roots and all of the things that helped shape us along the way and made us want to write and make movies in the first place. We wanted to get to the core of our own creativity because this site is from artists who love artists. We’re not just fans of the stuff we promote, we’re peers and we know what the struggle can be like sometimes, whether you are a starving artists, a poor screenwriter or a photographer who is sick of doing weddings and just wants to do fine art photography.

We realized that we were putting a lot of energy into trying to make the site something it wasn’t (because there are a million and one blog and review sites that people could go to for the kind of thing they were giving us a hard time for not doing enough of).

The site will be updated daily from now on (unless I take a day off which I might do from time to time or I am on a shoot.)

While we will continue to support other artists, we’ll also give you a taste of our own works and will include screenplay excerpts, short stories and essays, and chapters from my own life story, which involves a lot of insanity.

The new site should be more fun to read and a lot more fun for us to work on.

At the end of the day of photography, writing, movie making and all of the crazy ways we make money around here, we like to watch movies, tv, read, play video games, and all of the other recreational entertainment that fits and we happen to have bizarre tastes and that is what makes this site cool!

We hope you like the new site and will send us constructive feedback!

OK, there is much to do but if you haven’t been watching Battlestar Galactica, buy the boxsets and tivo the new season, which begins October 10th!
