Goodbye Cruel World!!!
Well, not goodbye, but see you later in other ways.
Running a web site that no one reads is a lot of work and money. When I started this site it wasn’t because I thought it would make money it was because I wanted a place to inform people of cool stuff they might be missing out on.
I’ve spent years promoting other people’s work and I’ve been happy to help bring more attention to quality art and entertainment but it is time to focus on my own work.
So, I will leave the site up until it expires later this year but unless I am inspired to resume posting, I think we’re done here.
The good news is we are deep in pre-production of a feature film which I wrote and am starring in and co-directing, called Beating Blackheart which we start shooting in October.

Resident Evil fans rejoice!

Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles is the greatest shooter for couples in love ever! Pick it up and kill zombies with your sweetheart this Valentine’s Day.
Thanks for the birthday wishes to my three readers.
Next week I’ll be posting my review of GodsGirls.com,

so you all can get the scoop on why you need to drop your old alt site for this one.

So, my birthday is almost here but I got my present already!

I have wanted this forever and finally broke down and bought it before it goes out of print.
Tombs of the Blind Dead is absolutely one of my favorite horror movies and this boxed set is a must for anyone with an appreciation for a big imagination with a low budget.
Like so many brilliant but underappreciated directors (Jean Rollin, Jess Franco & Mario Bava) come to mind, Amando de Ossorio delivered suspenseful and surreal escapism no matter what the budgetary obstacles were.
Blue Underground (DVD distributors of such gems as Eugenie, and my personal favorites Baba Yaga & Daughters of Darkness) has once again given us a dream collection of all of the Blind Dead films and a 5th DVD of special features that fans have waited years for.
Fans of European Horror and surreal fantasy cinema cannot afford to die without seeing these films.
Folks, if you haven’t seen Shohei Imamura’s criminal masterpiece Vengeance is Mine I believe Criterion would love to correct that ASAP!

If you love serial killer films or are a fan of the true crime genre, Vengeance Is Mine is simply one of the best and most compelling!

Okay, loyal (invisible and make believe) readers we’ll be updating soon but we have been busy preparing for the new year and switching gears a bit.
I’m finishing a screenplay or two (why shouldn’t I, I’m not in the WGA) and laying out my projects for the year.
Playing Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles for the Wii, and Mass Effect for the 360. Looking forward to seeing Paul Thomas’ There Will Be Blood.
More soon,
Terry

I went to see I Am Legend yesterday. The screen had a black fog over the bottom quarter of the image and after I complained and they fixed it, it returned several minutes later and no one bothered to fix it again. People talked all through the film (because you know if the actors aren’t talking, the audience should.)
I liked the movie a lot. I would have liked it more if the kid throwing pistachio shells all over the floor got his face chewed off by vampires and if the couples on both sides of us got shot in the face by Will Smith for talking through the entire film.
Also, FUCK YOU AMC Theaters! Who lets in a group of rowdy kids into a film 20 minutes after it starts!?! Seriously, I don’t like to miss the previews, never mind 20 minutes of the film.
There is absolutely no quality control in theaters these days. They are dirty and there is always a problem with the sound or picture.
I found out from the manager I complained to that there are usually only 1 or 2 projectionists managing 30 screens! No wonder it takes so long to fix the problem and no wonder the problem usually returns.
Picture theaters and movie companies crying because they are losing so much money because of poor theater attendance. Now picture my boot on their faces as I kick them repeatedly laughing as I go home and watch a perfect movie on my 40+ inch LCD HD TV!
Until electric chairs are installed in theaters that electrocute rude theater goers to death I may never go back!
Yeah, how did your infant child enjoy I Am Legend because it sounded like they were crying the entire film.

This weekend I saw The Golden Compass and No Country for Old Men and LOVED THEM BOTH! Golden Compass is a beautiful and imaginative tale about good and evil that isn’t an attack on religion as much as it is a plea to question authority.

Golden Compass is a great family movie that sadly won't be seen by many families because of a lot of unwarranted Fox News-style hysteria over the film promoting atheism (it promotes free thought more than anything.)
No Country For Old Men is the opposite, a brilliant and methodical exploration of how far we will go for something we want (even if the results might do us more harm than we anticipated.)
There is a lot of hysteria over The Golden Compass and Christians and Catholics are going crazy that anything should suggest they question their beliefs or the authority of the church.
Folks, at the end of the day the film is promoting free thought and not Satan.
This is what a free world is about.
Why not ban guns so people stop shooting people in malls, schools, churches and other public places instead of books and movies?
Any group that suggest banning anything because it promotes free thought only validates the reasoning of the material (which is why the US Catholic Bishops approved the film and many religious groups have actually declared The Golden Compass great and have suggested it should be used in religious teachings.
The film is too scary for small children but the ones sitting behind me who had been scared the whole movie said as they were leaving “Mommy, that was the bestest movie I ever saw.”
Religious faith and the freedom to practice it is a beautiful thing, but any organized religion that calls for banning art or literature is truly EVIL.
When THIS STOPS, Catholics can act like the moral authority again!

I am so busy editing my pal’s film and doing photo shoots that I haven’t had time to update but my friend and muse Taylor B Thorne is in a contest right now and all of my readers who have myspace accounts should go vote for her…

Went to a special screening of Battlestar Galactica: Razor last night with my wife (the two of us are crazed fans of the show after watching the mini-series and the first season on DVD over a few days. (I’ll say it again to all of the big useless television networks… STOP AIRING SHOWS ON TV AND JUST RELEASE THEM ON DVD!!!!)
Battlestar Galactica and Lost are the two smartest shows on TV! For as much as I love some of what the Sci_Fi network does, they ultimately could be a lot better. They haven’t give Battlestar Galactica the support they should have and they cut the seasons in half so much and leave viewers hanging for so long that people lose interest (Okay, no one loses interest but it pisses us off.)
So, despite Sci-Fi’s announcement that the next season of Battlestar G would be its last (BIG MISTAKE, unless they jump to making BG movies for theaters) they redeemed themselves quite a bit with the Battlestar Galactica movie Razor and if they are smart they will continue to make great BG movies.
Razor had all of the suspense and rich character development and powerful drama that that the series had, introduced a couple of new characters, neatly tied up some loose ends, presented new questions, gave our favorite characters great scenes to chew up and basically left a theater full of fans with their jaws on the ground after a few incredible moments of nostalgia. (Fans of the original series are going to lose their minds!)
The Razor event was sponsored by Mass Effect (the new sci-fi game coming next week for the Xbox 360) and I am quite sure most people in attendance who own a 360 already planned on buying this game, but the previews before the movie cemented it.
Battlestar Galactica: Razor airs November 24th and will then be available to own on DVD December 4th in an unrated and extended edition which we will be picking up and watching again that day!
Battlestar Galactica Season 4 (and final season) will begin airing sometime between 2008 and 2018 due to incompetence and now the writer’s strike. There also have been rumors that the Sci Fi network plans on splitting the season and delaying the airing of the final series ending episode up to a year which would be so stupid there isn’t even a proper word for how stupid it would be.
Sci Fi network, we want to love you! Please don’t treat your fans this way! Battlestar Galactica was your Citizen Kane! It was your golden ticket! Do you not see how BG will be looked back on as one of the greatest shows EVER aired? Do you not see that it could have been even bigger and gone on for ten successful years and that ratings don’t mean anything these days and that it is a different world that requires a different approach?
Nonetheless, thank you Sci Fi, Ron Moore and David Eick, and the wonderful cast and crew of Battlestar Galactica for Razor! It was a wonderful movie and a great new piece to the legendary puzzle!

I’d love to update but I am too busy playing this….

Why didn’t anyone tell me this Conan game was out? I have been so excited about it and suddenly it is just available in the busiest game season we have had in a long time. I wanted Time Shift but as a fan of Conan, Frank Frazetta, & ultra violent video games mixed with naked video game ladies, I had to pick this up!
I keep reading negative reviews and badmouthing of the Conan game and all I can say is what the f*ck do you people want? The graphics are great! The game play is engaging and fresh (even with all of the God of War comparisons it is still original) and the story is pure Conan! It’s a CONAN GAME!!!! Not just a Conan game but one that is true to the source material and not afraid to court a more adult market.
While everyone else will be groveling over Mass Effect I will be replaying Conan on every difficulty level and then praying for a sequel! This is a rare gift to lovers of Conan, Sword & Sorcery & Fantasy genres, and video games that are watered down or derivative of the last game you played!
Conan is easily the best game I have played this year! (Yes, even better than Stranglehold or BioShock, both of which I loved!!!!)
As a child of the 70’s who used to flip through Conan comics and gaze at Frazetta art, this is a dream game and one hopes the beginning of many, many more.
Ron Perlman (coolest and most underrated actor ever) does the voice work and adds to an already superb production.
If you love a great hack and slash game with wonderful fantasy elements, beautiful half naked women and a strong story that will make you feel like a kid again (when you were looking at stuff you probably shouldn’t have been in my case) you will love this game and be glad you didn’t let it slip by.
My only complaint is that there wasn’t a Limited Edition with an art book and a making of DVD because if any game deserves it, it is this one.
Next time guys, push the boundaries even further because there are plenty of us out there craving for this kind of game (and yes we’re in our 30’s and not a bunch of kids.)
Bravo to all involved for a wonderful surprise of a game that finally brings some adult gameplay to the 360.

STRIKE!!!
So, movie & television writers are officially on strike in a bid for better compensation for alternate media sales (DVD, internet, etc…) and it could have a long and bitter effect on television & movies.
Here is the bottom line folks. Writers are the most abused and underappreciated in the film and tv industry and more compensation is long overdue.
Writers should be paid as much as actors and directors because these people wouldn’t have any material without them!
Suck it up Hollywood and pay these people what they deserve!

We love movies here at Mondopopsickle.com! No, not the shit movies Hollywood releases every single week anticipating the Monday box office numbers of their over-tested, PG-13, CGI, no-story, sequel, remake HELL!!!!
We love movies with bite, edge, meaning, guts, soul, and we like raw, filthy, crazy movies that punch you in the stomach and leave you gasping on the floor for your breath while you try and figure out what you just experienced.
Where can you find such movies?
You have to dig for them because mainstream Hollywood doesn’t think there is enough money in making artistic, original films.
We’re not saying the movies we like are better than the ones anyone else might like but we stand by the claim that we have an appreciation for art in film and films that push the boundaries.
There are so many great companies distributing hard to find and eclectic films on DVD such as Criterion, (especially with the recently released Sweet Movie…)

(Look for our Sweet Movie review coming soon! Don’t wait for our review to buy it though if you love surreal and unusual films. Sweet Movie is one of the most satisfying films I have ever seen and Criterion did a wonderful job with this release!)
Now, one of my favorite filmmakers, Jean Rollin is getting the long overdue special edition treatment from a company called Encore Films…

(The Rape of the Vampire, Jean Rollin’s first film actually, is the latest to get the special edition treatment from Encore Films and it is truly a masterpiece.)
Jean Rollin has been making some of the most beautiful and surreal films since the 1960’s (which usually involve vampires) and next to David Lynch, he has the distinction of being the director whose films I rewatch the most.
Encore’s multi-disc DVD special edition packages are a dream come true for fans of Jean Rollin’s artistic cinematic fantasies and we truly appreciate the work and labor of love that these productions represent.
For those of you who own multi-region DVD players and have a love of international cinema and movies great originality and beauty, we urge you to pick these up at once.
The Jean Rollin Special Editions can be ordered in the United States from DiabolikDVD.com

For those of you who appreciated Quentin Tarantino & Robert Rodriguez’s Grindhouse and fans of subversive exploitation cinema, there is a gorgeous new hardcover book out that you must own.
I spied it at Barnes & Noble last night and spent a few minutes flipping through it and hope to have a review for you soon but I was left speechless at how complete and well put together it was.
Not since Cathal Tohill & Pete Tombs` beautifully complete book on European Sex & Horror cinema Immoral Tales have I seen such a must own book for cinema fans!
American exploitation films were equally rich with originality, style and tenaciously uncompromising and Nightmare USA seems to be the definitive book on the subject.
Review coming soon but don’t wait for it just go pick it up!

RISE – Blood Hunter

Wow! I have been hearing bad things about this movie for so long that I almost didn’t review it because I thought I might be wasting my time but I am so glad I didn’t make the mistake of listening to jaded critics because Rise – Blood Hunter was one of the most entertaining films I have seen in a long time… (read more…)
Vampyros Lesbos

If you haven’t yet experienced Vampyros Lesbos and the beautiful Soledad Miranda and if there are some of you who still haven’t seen a Jess Franco film then you need to. (Seeing Rise – Blood Hunter reminded me that I haven’t rewatched Vampyros Lesbos, one of the greatest lesbian vampire movies of all time, in quite awhile.)

As I wait patiently for the arrival of my iPod Touch and prepare to scan my iTunes for songs to transfer on to it I have been trying to climb out of a rather awful slump (like the economy) and getting ready to write a new script.
It is hard to write about new media when there is more good stuff coming out than there is time to process and review.
Here is a list for the moment of stuff we are excited about…
1, The new issue of HI FRUCTOSE magazine coming in November

2. iPod Touch – People complain about this and that (too little memory at 8 & 16 Gigs, some quirks and limitations but if you don’t have an iPod and never have, a few movies, hundreds of songs, a collection of favorite photos and internet wi-fi are about the coolest features one could ask for.

PS: If you really need to be sold, go watch the GUIDED TOUR!
3. Marc Baptiste’s new book “Nudes” – Simply beautiful.

4. Halo 3 – the most fun I have had playing online yet.
5. Rep Henry Waxman – Thankfully some one in government has some integrity and is going to try and make the Bush Administration accountable for their foul-ups, sneakiness, lies, (& perhaps crimes.) If you hate liberals you can thank this administration for creating a lot more of us! (OH, YOU DIDN'T KNOW THIS SITE HAD A LIBERAL SLANT?)
6. Interpol – the new album is still amazing!
7. WIRED – If I haven’t called Wired magazine an essential magazine to subscribe to and the smartest publication there is, I am doing it now!
8. Nerdcore 2008 Calendar – Last year’s was amazing but the 2008 edition looks even better!

9. Planet Terror DVD – Tomorrow the extended edition of Planet Terror arrives and let’s hope it has a whole lot more Rose McGowan naked! (or at least a lot of cool making of stuff.

10. Grant Lee Phillips – Remember Grant Lee Buffalo from the 90’s and the saddest songs you have ever heard? Grant Lee Phillips is still making amazing music so pick some up.
October 4, 2007
No, we did not fall off the wagon but we have been very busy! Regular updates returning soon.
Halo 3 has been keeping us busy, and we enjoyed our time with Master Chief but it is time to get on to more pressing matters like reviewing some stuff that you need to know about, like the iPod Touch for instance (because we already have a phone that works but no iPod.)
September 11, 2007
So we have our winners for the Ten Til Noon Giveway, and they are Andy Rose of Illinois & Rob Cogswell of Michigan. Congrats guys! I am mailing the prizes to you today!
A Quick Note to Jodie Foster - - - “Who the F*ck Do You Think You Are Again!?!”
Huh, so I just read on IMDB.com that Jodie Foster didn’t like the movie Sin City and found it cartoonish and offensive. OK, well Jodie, I found your performance in Nell to be pretty offensive and actually 85% of your performances have been forced and contrived in projects that have no originality or spark to them so I guess we can both appreciate that what we all find offensive is a subjective state of judgment.
